Hi, I'm Hannah Bretz

I'm a licensed clinical professional counselor who works with trauma, anxiety, and relationship issues. My goal is to help you reach more stability in your life, knowing that you can handle what life throws your way.

My Journey To Becoming A Counselor

I have battled with my own emotional and mental health problems

My struggles are what helped empower me with the ability to identify with other people’s pain.

There was a time in my life when I felt completely alone. Isolated in the middle of nowhere, trapped in a toxic relationship, and struggling with addiction. I wasn’t sure if things would ever change. The cycle of self-destruction and emotional numbness felt endless. I didn’t just feel stuck, I was stuck.

I know what it’s like to feel lost and broken

Healing from there wasn’t linear; it was a lot of trial and error. I had to move through my own lived experience growing up around addiction and unlearning patterns I once thought were normal. Therapy wasn’t just something I studied, it saved me, and now I help others find their way too.

My experiences shape how I show up as a therapist: relatable, supportive, and committed to assisting others heal. If you’re feeling isolated or unsure if things can get better, let’s work together to get you to where you want to be.

Helping People Is A Gift To Others, But Also Myself

Being a counselor is an honor

I love helping people become healthier and more empowered and seeing them finally getting the life they desire. The most rewarding thing about being a counselor is seeing a person walk away lighter, more free, and excited about their life.

I really work hard to understand and support you so you’ll have someone who truly gets what it’s like to be stuck and how to break free.

I Have A Genuine Interest In Who You Are And Bring An Open Mind To Sessions

I have a natural ability to:

Process past experiences and unlearn harmful patterns.

Help you set boundaries and build self-trust in relationships.

Teach tools to manage anxiety, self-doubt, and overwhelming emotions.

Support you in developing self-worth and creating a fulfilling life.

Clients often say that I feel like a trusted friend while maintaining a fully therapeutic experience. This balance allows them to open up comfortably, share anything on their minds, and still receive professional, effective therapy.

I also focus on empowering YOU. I will give you the tools. I won’t judge you. And I won’t tell you what to do.

Our Sessions Are Focused On You

Sessions will provide you with the space to express your thoughts and feelings

In feeling safe and comfortable, you'll be able to feel what you need to feel, be present, and in control while exploring your emotions and experiences. Learn effective tools to regulate emotions, break patterns, and build self-trust.

It's important to me to provide a non-judgemental space where you can be yourself. Throughout our time together, I stay open to any feedback and questions you may have. There isn't a "one size fits all" approach to therapy. Our sessions will fit your specific needs and concerns.

As A Counselor, I Embrace The
Following Philosophies

I believe that you are strong enough to be present with what you may be going through

I believe that therapy should address the person as a whole - their mind, body, and spirit

I believe that we can do hard things like going to therapy and we can do them and live better for it

I believe that people underestimate their ability to change. It's possible to change. It's possible to enjoy life again

I believe that we can stop feeling shame when we share our story with someone who can hear it with empathy and understanding

My Professional Background

hannah-bretz-counseling-bozeman-MT-hannah-photo-about-important

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the state of Montana

I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder before earning my graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Counseling from Adams State University in Alamosa, CO. My clinical training included supervision with a focus on neurodivergence, deepening my understanding of how neurobiology influences relationships and mental health.

In private practice, I integrate a range of therapeutic approaches, including narrative and somatic therapy, to support clients in their healing journey. I am currently in the intermediate level of Somatic Experiencing® training as I work toward becoming a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. This specialized training enhances my ability to help clients process and regulate stress, trauma, and nervous system dysregulation through body-based interventions.
